Steve's Log 31

The Devil bowed his head because he knew that he’d been beat.
And he laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Johnny’s feet.
Johnny said, “Devil, just come on back if you ever wanna try again,
‘Cause I’ve told you once—you son of a bitch—I’m the best there’s ever been.”

I think I may be one of the luckiest people I know. I have gone to hell and escaped before the devil realized I had won. The Inferno is a casino like none other. It is run by demons, devils, imps, and probably trolls too. The interior of the place is filled with wonders and delights and terrors that are best never discovered. Eight challenge rooms that threaten to take your life, your soul, and possibly even the lives of those you love who are far far away.

I played the games and won. I won every battle though some were close. I rolled dice with Asmodae himself and left his table with riches and magic and what may be potential power. The wishes he grants are at a price. You must bet yourself, literally. If you lose you lose something, it could be your left hand as The Professor discovered or your mother or perhaps your mind or your life. I lost my eyelids which sucked but the casino had a place that could heal me for a price. I won treasure like those found in a dungeons and dragons hoard. I am content to be gone from the place and though the place scared me to death, it has an allure to it that makes you want to go back. I pray I never see the place again for I must assume that next time I shall not fair so well.

Now we are back in Crimson Skies but the magic that brought us home took its toll. We have lost our cybernetics. It is strange to look at the pile of gear that was once inside of me. When we return to cyberworld I may get some back but I doubt it as I have learned to live as a man. I suppose now that we are home I shall have to free Sam. She is a beautiful slave but in the modern world, themes like slavery are not accepted. She has proven herself to be a valuable team member and I need to return her to that position. Thinking back on the Inferno, it was Sam that rode an elephant into battle and trampled her enemies like popping zits. I so love this woman.

Christine got her Ankh and is demanding I give her my Matrix. I won the Matrix by rolling dice with Asmodae but she claims it belonged to her. She is offering to take us to a man who can teach us to travel in a manner that is much safer than the chaotic way in which we now hop between worlds. I think if may be a good deal. She owes us for rescuing her. I guess perhaps this offer of hers would go a few steps towards repaying us. I will let the guys vote and consider their wants before I decide.
