Articles of the Brotherhood
The Captain is to have two full Shares; the Quartermaster is to have one Share and one Half; The Doctor, Mate, Master Gunner, Cook, and Boatswain, one Share and one Quarter.
No man to talk of breaking up their way of living, till each had shared 5000 Doubloons. After a year and a day, any man may part company but shall give up their share of Doubloons.
Each man who has taken the Oath of the Brotherhood shall be placed first on the lists by the quartermaster. All others shall be at the bottom.
Any man who breaks his oath to the Brotherhood and Father Dagon and Mother Hydra shall forfeit his protection from the Elder things and Deep Ones and the Hounds. His shall be hunted throughout this world and the next until his soul is stripped from his body.
He that shall be found guilty of Striking or Abusing any other of the crew in any regard, shall suffer what Punishment the Captain and the Majority of the Company shall see fit.
He that shall be found Guilty of Cowardice in the time of engagements, shall suffer what Punishment the Captain and the Majority of the Company shall think fit.
If any Gold, Jewels, Silver etc. be found on Board of any Prize or Prizes to the value of a Piece of Eight, and the finder do not deliver it to the Quarter Master in the space of 24 hours he shall suffer what Punishment the Captain and the Majority of the Company shall think fit.
He that shall have the Misfortune to lose a Limb in time of Engagement, shall have the Sum of Six hundred pieces of Eight, and remain aboard as long as he shall think fit.
When asked, good quarter shall be given.
When Parley is invoked it shall be given.
He that sees a Sail first, shall have first choice of weapons taken during the engagement.
He that shall be guilty of Drunkenness in time of Engagement shall suffer what Punishment the Captain and Majority of the Company shall think fit.
Every man has a vote in affairs of moment; has equal title to the fresh provisions, or strong liquors, at any time seized, and may use them at pleasure, unless a scarcity makes it necessary, for the good of all, to vote a retrenchment.
The lights and candles to be put out at eight o’clock at night: if any of the crew, after that hour still remained inclined for drinking, they were to do it on the open deck.
Every man shall keep their piece, pistols, and cutlass clean and fit for service.
Any man may call for a vote of no confidence against the Captain but no more than one vote per month shall ever occur. If a man calls for the vote and loses, he shall be marooned with a pistol, a bottle of rum, and a knife.
No duels of honor will be fought while at sea but challenges may be issued to be fulfilled when land has been made. Any man may challenge the Captain for right to lead but all such challenges shall be to the death. The Captain may not be challenged in this manner more than once per month.
